Antique Victorian Aesthetic Period early wrap / coil adjustable fit bracelet:
~ Features panels with raised floral patterns that alternate with vertical bars
~ True Aesthetic period design where they pursued "art for art's sake" and very much valued art, beauty and self expression and adorned as many objects as possible with such
~ This basic bracelet design or concept dates to 1883 - where a patent was applied for in January and granted June 19th of the same year for the construction and schematics. I spotted a similar adjustable coil panel bracelet in a Roddin 1887-89 catalog page titled "Fine Rolled Gold Plate Bracelets" and also have found original patent information that attributes this piece to Atwood and Lester from Attleboro, MA
~ Very special old antique piece all around
~ Ready and waiting for your wrist, collection, and/or gift giving - you will love it!!!!
ESTIMATED AGE OR ERA = True 19th century antique - circa late 1800's as dated - more specifically 1880's - Victorian period, Aesthetic movement subperiod, bracelet has partial / cut off patent date of Jun 19, 1883.
METAL AND/OR MATERIAL = Assuming it is "rolled gold" or gold plated
CLOSURE/CLASP = None - slide on to wear
MARKS = Each terminating end of the bracelet coil has stamping with the (partial) patent date information - one side is clearer than the other and both terminate prior to the year - but I have found information to confirm that this piece is indeed circa 1883. See pics and description above
MEASUREMENTS = 3/8" wide - and forgiving - conforming fit that should accommodate most any wrist
US RING SIZE = x
WEIGHT = x
CONDITION = Excellent antique condition - no damage or quirks found to mention. There is some gold plating or finish wear - but nothing out of the ordinary for a much loved / often worn bracelet going on 140 years old. See pics
Please view & enlarge all photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina, and/or wear. Most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of both and, unless severe, aren't considered damaged. I will do my best to note anything glaring or distracting. Utilize the scroll arrows beside the photos to allow yourself the opportunity to view them all. Pictures normally speak louder than words and individuals also interpret characteristics differently.
