METAPHYSICAL PROPERTIES or SYMBOLISM: Pansy flowers historically symbolize love and affection. Pansies also represent thoughtfulness, compassion, remembrance, and free-thinking

AGE OR ERA: True vintage / antique jewelry piece - estimating 1800's age, possibly even 1700's or older. Interesting materials, hand forged construction techniques, and timeless theme makes this little gem hard to date with any certainty. Has an unmistakable old world French look and feel

MARKINGS: None that I could find

METAL / MATERIAL: Brass body with slight remnants of a gold plating or gilding, hand painted enamel work in lovely shades of lilac purple, brick red, and a very soft light yellow. Old prong set paste rhinestone in the center with quaint rivet showing on the reverse side

CLASP / CLOSURE: Early hand formed primitive "C" catch clasp. There is also a little "stem" loop on the top that may allow you to string this on a chain or cord and wear it as a necklace pendant, if you would rather

CONDITION = Acceptable vintage condition - given the age. There are multiple enamel chips, but they blend well and add to the vintage look, in my opinion on this particular brooch. Something about this one just makes you want to bring it home and love it. Faceted glass stone in good condition, with no large chips or shards out - just some wear as one would expect. Pin back hardware in good working order. In an excellent state of preservation
