Rare Whiting & Davis Metal Mesh Art Deco Revival Hair Comb Accessory - Metallic Capri Blue Ribbed Circle w Chain Mail Strip and ORIGINAL TAG

AGE OR ERA: Original true authentic vintage piece for certain. Definite 1920's 1930's style - but very well could be a later revival piece. It is hard for me to say with any certainty due to lack of other examples, vintage ads with dates, sold comparables, etc to compare it to. The paper hang tag shows an original retail price of $15 - which was pretty steep to be too early of a piece when other hair accessories and tools were selling for well under $1 in the 1920's and 1930's. Price may be more in line with higher end 1970's and 1980's hair accessories, in my opinion

MARKINGS: None on the comb or metal mesh - tag reads "A Whiting & Davis CREATION" and has a perforated lower tear off portion that remains with retain price of $15.00 in gold metallic printing on the front and the back side of the tag has the classic Whiting & Davis bowtie logo and MADE IN U.S.A. printed in black ink

METAL / MATERIAL: Mottled faux tortoise shell look plastic or celluloid comb in shades of brown, silver toned metal mesh and circle focal piece (possibly aluminum) finished in a stunning shade of metallic capri blue, blue paper tag

CONDITION = Great vintage pre-loved, pre-owned condition, especially given the age and rarity. As state above, I think that this little gem is new old stock, in never worn or used condition. The teeth on the comb are not as straight as they once were due to age and/or storage - but they are all intact, free from cracks or breaks, and still function as they should. Minor faint water spotting on the paper tag and possible very very faint numbers inked in - I can't tell if it is faint blue ink or also just some water spotting on the old paper. See photos. This is a fine example anyone would be proud to own. In an excellent state of preservation.

Please view & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina and/or wear. Most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of both and, unless severe, aren't considered damaged and not mentioned.
