Unique One of a Kind Mythological Swan Maiden Goddess Female face pendant:

~ Outstanding vintage custom made heavy solid substantial 14k yellow gold pendant

~ Depicts a carved gemstone or rock crystal female face draped or enveloped by or centered in a swans body

~ If you are not familiar with the folk lore or fairy tale / myth it is highly interesting. It varies slightly between cultures, regions, and eras in time .... but shares the common thread of a swans and a maiden. Variations exist, but the stories frequently feature beautiful women who present as swans until they disrobe to bathe or swim. Conflict follows when a male interloper sweeps away one of the maidens to be his bride. Voyeurism, coercion, deceit, sacrifice, betrayal, hunting or seeking and meddling of others are common plot elements in this legend. Tales like these tend to explore a range of power dynamics and are of course, are open to personal interpretation. Storylines often address whether true love can develop between the maiden and her captor/rescuer.

~ The dimensional image has been carved from a large clear rock crystal or gemstone, the metal is solid cast 14k yellow gold and it is finished off with a genuine diamond on the swan's tail or neckline of the figure (however you choose to look at it .... the wings are also somewhat ambiguous and present like hair, especially if you aren't familiar with the lore)

~ Hidden double slightly oval shaped bails on back are ready and waiting for you to slide this on your favorite chain .. it could also be hung from the swan's neck (as it is a closed loop) if you desire

AGE OR ERA: Original true authentic vintage item - estimating 1980's or 1990's ... modern vintage era would be my best educated guess. Due to a timeless historic subject matter along lack of marks it is hard to date with any certainty.

MARKINGS: None that I could find at all

METAL / MATERIAL: Solid 14k yellow gold, the carved face stone tests to be in the spinel family - but could be any clear gemstone or rock crystal really. Such as moonstone (although unlikely, in my opinion due to lack of vivid color flashes), topaz, clear spinel, etc. and the diamond registers to be a genuine natural diamond.

ANECDOTAL AND/OR METAPHYSICAL: Swans can be seen as symbols of freedom, elusiveness, sensuality, romance, and even tragic love. (All these characteristics and more can be found in these swan maiden narratives). Aside from the folklore stories or fairytales - items decorated with swan feathers are often believed to have healing, protective and magical qualities. Swans can symbolize harmony and the ability to endure with grace and purity in your heart. The swan is often seen as a symbol of grace, beauty, and elegance, but it can also represents many other things, including love, purity, youth, young love, innocence, and transformation. Many people believe that the swan power animal has the ability to heal and protect and let us recognize the value of personal solitude.

CLASP / CLOSURE: Substantial double bails on the back and also the curve of the closed loop swan's neck can be used to hang his gem if you would want to

MEASUREMENTS: Just shy of 2" long x 1 3/8" wide. The profile or depth of the pendant from the back to the tip of the nose or highest point is aprox 5/8" thick. The diamond is around 2 mm in diameter

WEIGHT: 20.7 grams on my scale

TESTING: Both the gold and gemstones have been tested in a non-invasive, non-marring, manner.

INVENTORY NUMBER OR NOTE: x

CONDITION = Great vintage pre-loved, pre-owned condition. No damage or quirks found to mention. No cracks, chips, breaks, etc. Little to no signs of wear even on this beautiful pendant. I have not cleaned this at all and will leave it to the new owner. The diamond does show some very minor dark carbon type inclusions. It presents to have a yellow hue in my close up photos - it is truly whiter or brighter when viewing in person. It is not perfectly round or symmetrical, it has a little tiny flat edge, mainly under a prong. It is not chipped, rather just made that way when it was created. I have a feeling it may have been a special or sentimental diamond that someone wanted to include when this was commissioned, being that it is less than perfect or flawless. This is a fine example anyone would be proud to own or add to a collection. In an excellent state of preservation.

Please view & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina and/or wear. Most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of both and, unless severe, aren't considered damaged and not mentioned. Individuals do have varying levels of desire and tolerance for "vintage charm" so do utilize the scroll arrows beside the photos to allow yourself the opportunity to view them all, as they are an integral part and extension of the description.
