Very rare item for the serious collector:
~ Petit point tapestry purse made for the 1939 New York World's Fair
~ Designed to commemorate and/or be a souvenir of the once in a life time event that was the first Worlds Fair to be based on the future. With a slogan of "Dawn of a New Day" - and an original theme of "Building the World of Tomorrow" this hand bag falls right in line. The entire event was meant to lift spirits as we were emerging from the Great Depression and simultaneously moving into the WWII era. This purse will continue to do just that - lift spirits and bring awe and joy to the proud new owner as well as generations to come, just like the fair
~ The intricate woven pattern depicts the Administration Building and is somewhat off course from the iconic "Trylon and Perisphere" classically highlighted on memorabilia. Making this item that much more valuable and collectible, in my opinion
~ Of course this bag also has other appealing features that were all the rage at at the time - like floral accents, jewel toned kiss lock clasp, paper clip chain handle, and satin lining
~ I honestly don't believe this was ever used or carried as there are zero signs of wear - but am listing it to be in "Used Condition" to err on the side of caution
~ The original seam tag found inside gives credit to SICO House of Novelties for this creation. I have seen other SICO pieces (mainly porcelain trinket boxes and trays) that say they were made in Germany, but I can't say for certain on this little treasure
~ Highly desirable, beyond rare piece that crosses multiple collectible categories or genres to include New York, World's Fairs, vintage purses and handbags, and fabric arts - grab this gem before it is too late
Ready and waiting for your collection, special outfit or event, and/or gift giving - you will love this!

CONDITION = NEAR PERFECT antique / vintage pre-loved pre-owned condition - no damage found to mention. As perfect as perfect gets - I found no signs of use or wear at all. Not even the slightest. If I were forced to find a flaw or two - I would note that one of the blue glass jewels on the lock has very small - only visible to me under 10x magnification - amount of negligible shallow pitting. Very likely original to the molding of the glass gem. Barely capturable in photos. And the original satin brand tag has some minor amount of fraying on the edges as unbound satin type fabrics tend to get. See last pic(s). The lining is surprisingly intact and free from any of the normal ink or makeup stains often found in vintage purses, or any stains of any kind or offensive smells at all. The hardware is in good tight working and holding order. Perfect amount of click or tension when securing the kiss lock clasp. This is a very fine piece anyone would be proud to own - from a novice just starting out to a seasoned collector. In an excellent state of preservation.
