ANECDOTAL, METAPHYSICAL, HISTORY &/or LORE: St. Louis gained fame in 1803 as a jumping-off point for the Louisiana Purchase Expedition. After 1804, more New Englanders and other East Coast emigrants settled in St. Louis, but the population remained predominantly French until well into the 1800's. St. Louis incorporated as a city in 1823. During the 19th-Century, St. Louis grew into large and important center of commerce and trade. Between 1840 and 1860, the population exploded with the arrival of many new immigrants. Germans and Irish were the main ethnic groups to settle there. St. Louis was a strategic location during the American Civil War, but it stayed firmly under Union control - in large part because of the fiercely loyal German influence. Later waves of St Louis settlers included Italians, Serbians, Lebanese, Syrians, and Greeks, who settled here by the late 19th-Century. This ponder worthy information fuels visions of who may have created and/or bought and cherished this very special brooch.

CONDITION: Great vintage condition - given the age and collectibility. Most, if not all of the tiny little mini tiles are intact. There is some corrosion to the metal - I have not cleaned this piece up at all as I am kind of a purist and try to leave things as found. Hardware in good working order. Please study all photos to self-form an opinion of condition and gain additional item insight that only viewing photos can provide. A fantastic find in an excellent state of preservation.
