Antique beaded necklace from the inventory of a collector:
~ This item is from the archives of a collector and has an information card attached - I don't have the heart to remove it
~ The old index card segment reads: Blue padre beads, Brass Beads, Chevron bead
~ The turquoise blue glass "padre beads" are have an interesting range of robins egg blue turquoise shades and mixed finishes - with most being matte and a few random glossy beads. Look to be 1800's blue American fur trade beads
~ Saucer or bicone shaped brass beads look to be hand formed / handmade and have a lovely patina that only time and wear can produce
~ Chevron focal bead has many layers (at least 6) and a red, white, and blue color scheme - Venetian African trade type
~ Each bead is full of it's own characteristics and personality - as you can see from the photos these are very old and exhibit color, size, and shape variances due to the handmade nature, as the best and most valuable beads do
~ Perfect all on it's own or wear it stacked or layered up with other favorites - would compliment a wide range of styles and eras of other jewelry including Native American, Southwestern, Hippie / Bohemian, and/or African
Ready and waiting for your neckline, wardrobe, collection or gift giving - you will love this!

HISTORY, PROVENANCE, ANECDOTAL, METAPHYSICAL, SYMBOLISM &/or LORE: The majority of the Venetian chevron beads made in Venice and Murano, Italy, for export to West Africa and the Americas had layers in red, blue, and white towards the end of the 1300's . Venetian chevron beads have been traded throughout the world, most heavily in West Africa, where they were introduced by Dutch merchants in the late 1400's. Some very small sized 7 layer Venetian chevron beads (also made during the late 15th century), are found exclusively in the Americas, mainly in Peru, and are attributed to having been introduced by Christopher Columbus. Chevron beads are one of the most popular collectors' items and they are still highly prized in present-day West Africa, where they are still worn to denote prestige, ceremonial purposes, and occasionally buried with the deceased.
The beads on this necklace strand are not only works of art, beautiful adornments and versatile fashion accents, but also little antiques rich in history

The necklace is 24 inches long and made of mixed materials including glass and brass. It is a perfect gift for any occasion, such as stocking stuffer, Christmas, graduation, or just because. The necklace is a unique piece of handmade vintage jewelry that will add a touch of bohemian, southwestern, and African style to any outfit. It is perfect for both men and women and can be worn for any occasion, from formal events to casual outings. Treat yourself or your loved one to this beautiful necklace that is sure to make a statement.
CONDITION: Good vintage condition given the rarity and collectibility - I can see in my close up photos that there may be an accumulation of dirt or debris. I have not cleaned these at all. Plenty of room for improvement if you choose to do so. There looks to be some cobalt blue glass loss in the very outer most wells of the chevron bead - as so many of these layered old beads do. May even be original to the bead. In an excellent state of preservation.

Please view & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina and/or wear. Most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of both and, unless severe, aren't considered damaged and not mentioned. Especially if obvious and/or prominent in the photos. Individuals do have varying levels of desire and tolerance for "vintage charm" so do utilize the scroll arrows beside the photos to allow yourself the opportunity to view them all, as they are an important integral part and extension of the description.
