HISTORY, PROVENANCE, ANECDOTAL, METAPHYSICAL, SYMBOLISM &/or LORE: Copper molds originated in Europe in the 1700s and enjoyed a long run in the kitchen that lasted through World War I. Highly popularized during the Victorian Era (1837 to 1901) where they were used to make classic European dishes such as blancmange (a dairy-based gelatin dessert), savory chicken and ham pie, puddings, and cakes. These molds remained a common kitchen staple and enjoyed a surge during the 20th century where Jell-O reigned supreme. Perfect now for just admiring their craftsmanship, complexities and nuances. They make lovely wall hangings or create a unique display on a plate rack or shelf.

This particular mold was made by the Jones Brothers - 4 Down Street London, England / United Kingdom. Later marks on other pieces read “JONES BROS. 4 DOWN ST. W.”

JUST FOR FUN - AI DESCRIPTION - (GENERATED BY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE): This rare and intricate antique copper mold is a true gem for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Crafted in the 1800s by the renowned Jones Bros. of Down Street in London, England. This mold is a testament to their exceptional skill and artistry. The mold is made of high-quality copper and features exquisite detailing that is sure to impress. It is a handmade piece and is perfect for those who appreciate unique, one-of-a-kind items. This mold would make a great addition to any collection and is sure to be a conversation starter.

CONDITION: In good antique or vintage pre-loved condition. Fantastic original patina that only time and use can create. It is slightly out of round - mainly noticeable when looking at / measuring the circumference at the bottom. Perhaps a byproduct of the handmade nature. There are dents on two of the lady finger shaped towers - see last pic. Very well may be able to manipulate or repair the dents and/or the circumference, if you felt the need. There are some minor random white paint type marks that may clean off also. I am not certain the fold away hook or loop is original. I am somewhat of a purist and believe in leaving things as found as that is part of the history and charm of an item - I have not washed, cleaned, polished, etc at all. In an excellent state of preservation - especially considering the utilitarian nature and age.

Please view & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina and/or wear. Most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of both and, unless severe, aren't considered damaged and not mentioned. Especially if obvious and/or prominent in the photos. Individuals do have varying levels of desire and tolerance for "vintage charm" so do utilize the scroll arrows beside the photos to allow yourself the opportunity to view them all, as they are an important integral part and extension of the description.
