ANECDOTAL, METAPHYSICAL, &/or LORE: Hand cut paper cards were one of the first style of cards produced. These ornate pieces had very finely cut details and motifs, and featured hand coloring and quotes of adoration rendered in German script or fraktur style lettering.

For a time period that is viewed as restrained, staunched, and prudish - the Victorians actually embraced love, friendships, and relationships. All with an air of sentimentalism, of course. Valentine’s Day cards were a popular method of expressing these emotions. Through hidden codes like "The Language of Flowers", that the Victorians were so fond of, they secretly conveyed their feelings. Almost all Valentines of the late nineteenth century feature flowers in some form, mostly with roses, lilies, lilacs, pansies and violets.

JUST FOR FUN - AI DESCRIPTION - (GENERATED BY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE): Capture a piece of history with this antique 1800's Victorian paper wedding card. A tangible testament to a rich past, this collectible features a classic left edge fold, a nod to the traditional paper engineering of the era. The sweet message within speaks to the love and celebration that weddings of the time represented. Ideal for collectors and history enthusiasts alike, its origin is shrouded in mystery, adding an element of intrigue. Whether you're looking to add depth to your collection or seeking a unique piece of Victorian charm, this early greeting card is a timeless treasure.

CONDITION: Good vintage condition - given the age and delicate nature of antique paper items. This looks to be well intact, with minimal loss or damage. Very minor bits may be missing, torn, or folded - as most all Victorian Valentines cards exhibit. There is one area of loosened adhesive / broken bond that holds the layers of front decoration to the body of the card front - see pic. The other three remain intact. Easy fix, should you feel the need. In average to above average shape compared to others, I believe. Please study all photos to self-form an opinion of condition and gain additional item insight that only viewing photos can provide. A great find in an excellent state of preservation.

Please view & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina, wear, and/or discoloration - as most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of all. It is actually to be expected and embraced as it is part of the unique character, rich history and individual story of each and every piece and, unless severe, isn't considered damage and is not mentioned. (Especially if obvious and/or prominent in the photos). Individuals do have varying levels of desire and tolerance for "vintage charm" so do utilize the scroll arrows beside the photos to allow yourself the opportunity to gauge for yourself by viewing them all, as they are an integral part and extension of the description.
