Wildly interesting old antique BPOE lapel, button, or hat pin:
*Well loved old Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 30 year anniversary piece
*Very fine and detailed
*Evident from looking at the reverse side that someone one has gone to great lengths to preserve this beloved piece, it shows a lot better from the front side
*Bright cobalt blue enamel really sets off the thirty year banner
*Age / Era: I am guessing this to be late 1800's to early 1900's
*Closure: Screw wing nut meant to be threaded on the post
*Material / Metal: Interesting very old mix of gold, gold plated / filled, silver, enamel, and precious gems. The diamond tests to be genuine and the round cabochon eyes are either ruby or rhodolite garnets
*Marks: Marked with a makers mark on the gold plated or filled backing - I believe it reads H & O or O & H, the bottom 30 year banner is marked STERLING and I am assuming the elk body itself is gold
*Measurements: Not including the screw back - the pin itself measures about 1/2" tall x 7/16" wide
*Weight: 1.6 grams on my scale
*CONDITION: Acceptable condition for the age - one or both antler tips appear to have been retyped or reinforced with silver vs gold and there may be small blemishes or chips in the diamond upon inspection with magnification. View & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina, and/or wear. Most older pieces by nature normally have some degree of both and, unless severe, aren't considered damaged. I will note anything glaring or distracting.
